Who is Scentwork & Tracking suitable for?

I run classes that are designed to get any dog & owner started in scent sports. Scent sports such as scent detection and tracking are suitable for all dogs and owners with no previous training needed. Puppies and older dogs are welcome to join us !

Scent detection and tracking are a little easier on the human than mantrailing. For scent detection, we work in a smaller area, and for tracking, initially, we will be working on a small grassy area in a methodical way, meaning its not as high octane for you as the handler (unlike mantrailing), which can cover more challenging terrain faster from the start.

You will NOT be required to run for either of these activities, but you will need to be able to hold the lead/longline with your dog in a harness, pulling out ahead of you in tracking (Don't worry, we teach them a specific cue and have a clear start line so your dog won't start pulling you on their walks). However its still a great mental and physical workout for both you and your dog

Got a puppy?

Support your puppies to explore the world in a calm, confidence-building way. Scent-based activities like scent detection and tracking encourage focus, problem-solving, and sets them up for relaxed, well-rounded behaviour as they grow.

Struggling with the teenage phase?

Channel the endless energy into something meaningful and fun. Scent sports give your dog the mental & physical workout they need and help them learn to relax and unwind at home.

Navigating life with an aging dog?

Got a golden oldie? Scent-based activities are a gentle, brilliant way to keep their minds active and spark joy in the day. It's easy on ageing joints, big enrichment - and never too late to start!

What do we cover in scentwork training?

In private and group sessions we will cover everything you need to know to turn your dog into a sniffer dog!

Scent pairing

We create a positive association and interest for the scent, which in our beginners scent detection class is red Kong and in our tracking course we use your scent.

Indication

In simplistic terms the indication is how our dog communicates to you, the handler, that they have found the target odour. In scent detection and tracking we work on a freeze, sit or down indications.

Searching

Searching is simply how our dogs gets to the scent, we will work out what motivates your dog and build up their skills week on week. Tracking and scent detection use different skill sets to search for the scent and its amazing to watch our dogs come to life doing both activities!

Tracking Classes In Lincolnshire

Tracking teaches your dog to follow the exact path a person has walked using footsteps, ground disturbance and scent left behind. It’s a calm, methodical and incredibly instinctive activity that gives dogs a purposeful job and a huge mental workout without requiring obedience or high levels of training.

Many owners choose tracking because it’s one of the best ways to help energetic, anxious or easily overstimulated dogs feel more settled. Instead of racing through the world, your dog learns to slow down, think, problem-solve, and use their nose in a focused, structured way. Most dogs & their owners finish a tracking session feeling proud, relaxed and tired in the best possible way.

How Tracking Differs From Scent Detection & Mantrailing

  • Scent Detection – your dog searches for a specific target odour (e.g. Kong, gun oil, truffle oil, catnip) usually in a smaller area.

  • Tracking – your dog follows the exact route a person has walked and works out each turn and change in direction.

  • Mantrailing – your dog follows the individual scent of a specific missing person carried on the air.

Tracking is calm, structured & methodical. Suitable for all dogs, especially those who thrive with routine and clear tasks.

What You and Your Dog Will Learn

  • How to follow a laid track across grass and natural terrain* (as we progress to level 3 & 4)

  • How to read your dog’s tracking cues and changes in behaviour

  • Line handling skills

  • How to build a strong working partnership based on trust

  • How to give your dog meaningful mental stimulation that reduces reactivity, frustration, and restlessness

These classes are perfect for dogs who need more than a walk to feel fulfilled, dogs who can’t cope in busy group environments, and owners looking for a rewarding hobby that strengthens their relationship with their dog.

Limited spaces available as we keep class sizes small (no more than 4)
